Jamil Najam is an educator and administrator with extensive experience from a life long career in the education department of the Government of Punjab (Pakistan). Having worked at all levels — from head-teacher of elementary, high, and higher secondary schools to Deputy Director, Deputy Manager, Director Secondary Education and then Project Director CPP — he has a comprehensive understanding of the educational system in the Punjab and in Pakistan. In his various capacities he has guided and supervised teachers and has been associated with in-service teacher training programs. He has been a pioneer in recognising the importance of communities in promoting education & establishing schools. He has demonstrated his competence in community mobilization not only through the establishment of a model School Management Committee [SMC], but also through the development of environmental improvement programmes, volunteer teachers’ scheme, and the upgrading of schools through private sector collaboration.
He also has expertise in dealing with non-formal education [NFE] as part of the Education for All [EFA] Project. Mr. Najam was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2002 by the Government of Pakistan for his services in the field of education
