Beena Raza is an educator and musician with a multidisciplinary background. Her experience covers over twenty years in teaching, educational management and leadership, public-private partnerships in the education sector, and the promotion of South Asian culture and arts in both public and private sectors.
In the areas of educational leadership and management, her work has covered designing and managing a leadership programme for Pakistani educators hosted by Plymouth State University, New Hampshire, USA, from 2004 to 2010. The programme is known as Pakistani Educational Leadership Institute (PELI). To date, 238 Pakistani educators have benefited from this program. PELI is seen as a unique and dynamic citizens exchange project that explores “best practices and innovations in science education, within a framework of the role of educational leadership in civil society and the development of an educated responsible citizenry.”
She has developed and facilitated training programmes, nationally and internationally, for Pakistani education managers at school and college level in both public and private sector institutions. She was one of the lead trainers of the Continuous Professional Development Program [CPD] launched by the Directorate of Staff Development, Government of Punjab, to train 375 District Teacher Educators [DTEs].
As a musician and music educator she has vast experience in designing and implementing music and film education programs at university/college and school level. She has been part of Sanjan Nagar's Institute of Philosophy and Arts [SIPA] core musicology team that worked extensively in setting up the first ever four-year undergraduate programme in Musicology in Pakistan at the National College of Arts where she taught music for five years. She was a visiting faculty at Beaconhouse National University where she taught History of Music at the School of Liberal Arts.
She is Pakistan’s leading female sitar player and has performed at different musical forums, nationally and internationally.
She has been a participant of the prestigious International Visitors Leadership Program in the United States in 2002 and attended the four-week Leadership Institute in 2009 at Plymouth State University in the US. She is a senior member of the Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust executive board.
Beena Raza has a B.Sc from the Punjab University, an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Punjab, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership & Management from the University of Management & Technology (UMT), Lahore.
